The Bedtime Brigade Rises and Shines!

Friday, January 10, 2025- Cary Christian School, Cary, NC

Rise and shine! No snow day for the Huggable Heroes today! Along with author Jennifer Pegram (and her mobility service dog, Leonard,) they braved the chilly temperatures (that later became snow flurries) to participate as one of three parent speakers at an event for Lower School students (Kindergarten-5th graders.) This event, titled ‘Extraordinary Outcomes: Readers, Writers, and Mathematicians,’ was designed to help these young learners understand the importance of these core academic areas and how they can be interwoven into various career choices—all framed within a classical Christian Education mindset.

Jennifer spoke representing the area of writing, alongside a lawyer (reading,) and an engineer (mathematics).

It was very exciting to begin the journey of publicly spreading her author message in-person post the launch of the series. While her talk was tailored to the focus and needs of a Christian School, it gave her an excellent chance to clarify her ‘why’ as it aligns with her personal faith and beliefs. We all need opportunities to explore our larger purpose and passions, as well as how that can make our corner of the world a better place. The heart and soul of The Bedtime Brigade, and Jennifer’s overall goal with writing for readers of all ages, is to send an inspirational message that ‘flips the script’ and allows people to catch a glimpse of the growth that can come out of challenges and difficult times. It is the cracks that allow the light to shine through, and the light can’t truly be noticed without first experiencing darkness. Additionally, it is only in feeling broken that we have a chance to rebuild. The sooner we can expose children to the idea of shifting perspectives, the more resilient they will be as adults. The practice then becomes second nature.
